How should I paint a plastic model toy?
I want to custom paint my own Transformers action figure. I bought a pack of acrylic paint, but when I tried it, it was not evenly spread on by the brush (spots could be seen through it.) Is this typical of acrylic paint? Do I specifically need a model paint kit? Do plastic and metal differ in the way they handle paint? Also, the paint was easily scraped off after drying.
What I really need is full instruction on the proper way to paint a plast model toy and and what materials to use.
Did you get the craft acrylic paint? If so then yes. That acrylic paint is not made to attach to plastic. Try testors brand acryl paint, or tamita acrylic paint. If you want a spray can, try Tamiya lacquer based paints. For best results, use primer. The primer “teeth” which allows the paint to hold on. The lacquer based tamiya spray paint will give you the best results. Lacquer drys fast and covers fairly thin, not hiding any details. All the brands of paint i mentioned are available at your local hobby shop.
